Television starts with “me”

You’re not going to believe this. You ready? I was on TV. Yup. For my artwork too. I am still feeling a little woozy. It’s not ABC, NBC or any of the other big networks. It’s actually “art” Tv, more specifically, “Orange TV”. It’s a local arts channel. If you are interested, here’s the link
I can’t watch. I tried, and after about 5 seconds I started hyperventilating and turned it off. I can’t explain why, I just know it’s an anxiety thing. I’ll try again at some point, but not yet.
Here’s some doodles I’ve been up to:
Peter Falk died, and I couldn’t let that go without a doodle. I loved watching Columbo as a kid.
My cousin reminded me that I never did a Farrah doodle, so this is for him.
A jazzy doodle. I don’t know this man’s name (do you?) but I like his face.
My kids have a book about the Titanic, got me doodling.
A ladylike cat.
My cat, YumYum is an endless source of doodles. This habit is starting to cause budget problems, as toilet paper isn’t getting any cheaper, and she can do this to a whole (new) roll.
See you soon!

Wowza

A couple of weeks ago, I got a great opportunity. I was invited to be interviewed on Orange TV, a local television station that help promotes art and artists. I had a bunch of fun, met some really nice people and now I can’t watch. But if you want to, you can: http://www.orangetvfl.net/participate-the-cultural-advantage/dawn-schreiner-video_832341128.html

Here’s some of the art that was featured on the show:

Audubon Center for Birds of Prey

Have you been to the Audubon Center in Maitland (or your city)? I take my kids occasionally, and it’s always a wonderful experience. The commitment that the staff and volunteers have for the birds is remarkable. We are always in awe of the peaceful sanctuary that has been created on behalf of these majestic creatures. Even the vultures are beautiful.
One of the paintings I did for the Maitland History show, is in honor of the Center:

The image is painted on a projection screen. I learned so much about how the Audubon Center came to be, when I started digging into it’s history. Herons & egrets were seriously endangered, due to their lovely feathers (and how they looked on hats). The Dommerich’s (a prominent wealthy family in Maitland) and some of their friends were so shocked by the amount of birds being killed in Central Florida alone, that they got together and funded the Center. Today, thanks in a large part to their efforts, the birds are thriving.
here, another look at the Audubon piece and the map of Maitland that I created.
If you haven’t been to the Center yet, I encourage you to check out their website, and consider a trip out. It’s not only good for the birds, but I am always amazed at how calm and happy I feel on my way home.

A Thursday in June

Not the Third Thursday, however. That was last week. I know because I was at an event in Thornton Park for the monthly Third Thursday Art Walk. I was invited by the delightful “Lambs Eat Ivy” salon, to show my work inside and out.
Here are a few photos from the evening:

The salon is lovely, here you can see the beautiful front courtyard.

Two of my paintings in between stylist’s stations.

A Big painting that is hanging in the hall.

One of the paintings in between stylists.

Big painting on front wall of salon.

Reel to reel boxes at The Boss’s station.

Coffee + Doodles = Heaven

Some of my screens for outside show.

Two more.
It was so fun, and I think I might just do it again on the next Third Thursday.

Lambs Eat Ivy opening

Here’s the store front of Lambs Eat Ivy. It’s actually a “salon front”, since it’s not a store so much as a salon.

I was delighted to be invited to be artist of the month at Lambs Eat Ivy. What does that mean? I can hang doodles for the month and I get to show my work outside to the masses on the third Thursday of the month. Here are some photos from the set up of the inside show and the outside show. Lots of doodles were added after these photos were taken, so I need to go get even more photos. One thing I did different for this show, is I added some big paintings.

Like this one:

I love that frame. It’s a large vintage frame I’ve had a long, long time.

Here’s another large painting:

You can sort of get a sense of scale with this photo.

There were two medium sized paintings too:

The one on the right sold opening night! #yippee!

Here are some interior shots:

The Queen is there, in an inflatable frame.

The Boss’ station got “The Boss” of course.

Doodle + Coffee = Heaven.

Even the necessary room gets some doodles.

Now some shots of the Third Thursday event. This is before the crowds.

My pull down screens made an appearance.

They worked especially well behind the karaoke. This photo was taken by a pretty girl who was participating in a scavenger hunt Thornton Park was having that night:

One more:

It was a fun, if a little hot, and exciting show.

Father’s Day is this month, so Happy Father’s Day to all the dads. You make this a beautiful world. Thank you.

The White House and Orange TV

Have you heard of the White House? Not the one in Washington DC, but the one on Summerlin Avenue, in downtown Orlando? It’s not just a place, but a home. It’s a performance place, for music and art. It transcends the typical music/art experience in that it’s free. You are only asked to bring a dish to share and your own beverage(s). In return, you experience a singular sensation that is sublime. You can read more about the man who started it all, and the place: http://www.benoitglazer.com/, click  “timucua” to read more about events.

I was invited to do live painting at the White House. It was a thrilling experience, and the performers where phenomenal and moving. I haven’t finished the painting I worked on, but when i do, I’ll post it. I also did a portrait of the host, Benoit Glazer, that I did complete.

I gave Benoit the framed portrait, in admiration of the tremendous gift he gives our community.

Then, this morning, I was on Orange TV, being interviewed on the show “pARTicipation”.  I had a wonderful time meeting all the people that put the show together. Everyone involved is so engaging and interested in what they’re doing and how to make it the best it can be.

I’ll share the link to my video when I get it, in the meantime, it’s Channel 199 on Brighthouse. It’s a United Arts funded program, that alone sent me straight to the moon.

Here’s some recent doodles:

I don’t watch the show “House” much anymore. I work a lot at night, and therefore TV is out. I saw a video from the show, where House performed the  song “Forget Your Troubles C’mon Get Happy”, here’s the link: http://www.youclubvideo.com/video/162726/house-get-happy-official-music-video

My little girl is growing up. She graduated from parochial school, and is now off to join the public school kids in High School.

It’s been hard to watch her leave the safe little nest of her school, but it’s time she spread her wings.

Bob Dylan celebrated a birthday recently. I couldn’t let that go without a doodle.

Do you know Dr.Who? My daughter is a huge fan. It’s a BBC production (http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/dw), and there’s a certain appeal of the young doctor and his british accent…

The Casey Anthony trial is big news in Orlando. It’s a gruesome story of the death of a 2 year old girl and the implication of her mother in the crime. You can watch every minute here: http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/local/caylee-anthony/

The Judge in the Anthony case, Belvin Perry Jr. He’s a real character.

Happy Monday and happy week.

Tomorrow is the end, so better post today

The end of the world has been predicted before (http://www.abhota.info/end1.htm), to no avail. Now, we have another doomsday prediction (http://articles.sfgate.com/2010-01-01/bay-area/17466332_1_east-bay-bay-area-first-time-camping) the rapture.

It’s too much for me to think about, so instead, I’ll share some recent doodles.

Tina Fey celebrated a birthday this week. But this in no way to celebrate…

That’s better.

Nora Ephron had a birthday too. She wrote the screen play for “When Harry Met Sally” and “you’ve got mail”, to name just two. She is a true inspiration. She likes her steak smothered in sea salt and butter too. She likes butter so much, she says it’s her religion.

Below, is a page from the coloring book I did for the Maitland History Museum. I had lots of fun coming up with ideas for it. You can click on the image, then print the page out and add your self portrait. Feel free to photograph the results and email me the image. I would love to see what you come up with.

Well, I guess I should go clean the bathroom before the “Rapture”

Doodles and doing

I’ve been doodling and trying to get art up (doing) in Orlando. I have doodles up in the Apopka Library at the moment. Also, the show at the Maitland History Museum will be up until November (http://www.maitlandhistory.org/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=5:maitland-historical-museum&Itemid=134). Today I visited a little charming shop “Lambs Eat Ivy” in Thorton Park.  (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Lambs-Eat-Ivy-Salon/53351852891). They have offered to hang doodles in the month of July, which I am tickled about. More on that later.

I’ve started a new book, all about the antics of my cat Yum Yum, who is full of more mischief than any cat should be.

There are more installments to come, based on Yum Yum’s misfortunes.

I did a portrait of my mom, when she was little, as a Mother’s Day tribute:

My Little mom will actually be on a sticker soon, which I’ll share as soon as I get a hold of one.

Today’s doodle is a tribute to “Moonstruck”, one of my favorite movies.
